Dr. Colin Hughes will describe and illustrate the startling diversity of species, life forms and ecologies in the legume genus Lupinus, and especially the 85 species found in the Andes. He will describe current field and herbarium research to document species diversity in the Andes and assemble a new taxonomic account of the genus for that region. In addition, recent research to investigate the evolutionary dynamics of species diversification for the genus as a whole will be presented, and Dr. Colin Hughes will attempt to address the question - Why are there so many species of Lupinus in the Andes.
